Philly lax community comes together as more than $8,000 is raised in Logan Schweiter benefit/fundraiser clinic

Over $8,000 was raised when 120 youth lacrosse players participated Sunday in Conestoga Youth Lacrosse’s benefit/fundraiser clinic for CYL lacrosse player Logan Schweiter at Wilson Park.

More than 100 youth lacrosse players participated in the benfit/clinic for Logan Schweiter on Sunday (courtesy of CYL President Steve Friedman)
Youth players from Radnor, Springfield (Delco), Haverford School, Ashbee, Great Valley, West Chester, Shipley and host Conestoga Youth Lacrosse showed again how the Philadelphia Lacrosse community pulls together to support one of its own.
Orchestrated by CYL Board members David Metzbower (Malvern Prep coach), and Peter Scott (a longtime CYL coach), and assisted by coaches Brian Samson (Conestoga) and John Begier (Radnor) and members of Conestoga and Malvern teams the benefit was a complete success.
Steve Friedman, President of the CYL, said the event was a special day for the community to show support for a family in need.
“A lot effort from the community. this is not just a CYL affair, boys from programs all over Philadelphia are here to support the Schwieters,” he said. “Peter Scott and David Metzbower when they heard about what had happened came up with the idea of bringing the high school boys together for a clinic for the younger boys and got the other coaches from the area involved and raise some funds for Logan.”
Marty and Melissa Schweiter thanked the organizers and volunteers of the program.
“Wow! I cannot thank all of you for the time and effort put in to help Logan and our family,” they said in a statement. “A ‘thank you’ is SO inadequate. But, please know that it moves us to have your support and we do not in any way take for granted the time and effort you all put in to raise this money.”
On July 25, Logan was caught under water in a flooded creek. He was pulled out, resuscitated and taken to Bryn Mawr Hospital and then later transferred to CHOP. Logan is currently in stable condition but unable to interact with his family due to the sedation and paralytics.
Logan, 12, just completed the 6th grade at St. Katherine’s in Wayne, loves football and is part of the Conestoga Youth Lacrosse community.
To help with the many injury-related expenses not covered by insurance, a fundraising campaign in Logan’s honor has been established with National Transplant Assistance Fund (NTAF). NTAF is a local nonprofit that has been assisting the transplant and catastrophic injury communities for more than 28 years.
All donations are tax-deductible and are administered by NTAF for injury-related expenses only.
Checks should be made payable to: NTAF Mid-Atlantic Traumatic Brain Injury Fund, note: In honor of Logan Schweiter.
