This comprehensive camp is designed to accommodate players of all levels. Coaches will help beginners grasp the main concepts of play and develop the basic skills necessary for more advanced situations. More advanced players will focus on stickwork as well as shooting, dodging, and one-on-one defense. Full equipment is required for all participants.

COACHING STAFF

Glenn Thiel is beginning his thirty-first season as head coach of the Penn

State men’s lacrosse team. In 2005 he had one of his most memorable

years, guiding the Nittany Lions to their first-ever NCAA appearance.

A 1966 Penn State graduate, Coach Thiel has more than forty years of

coaching experience. His overall collegiate coaching record of 295-199

places him fourth on the national all-time career wins list.

Guy Van Arsdale begins his fourth season with the Nittany Lion men’s

lacrosse program. Prior to his arrival at Penn State, he spent one year at

the University of Notre Dame, assisting in all phases of lacrosse operations.

He brings more than twenty years of coaching experience, including

fifteen years as a head coach. Coach Van Arsdale graduated from

Hobart University, where he was a standout goalie.

Kevin Conry enters his second season as assistant coach of men’s lacrosse

at Penn State after serving as an assistant at Siena College for two years.

A 2004 graduate of Johns Hopkins University, he was the captain of the

man-down unit, playing in three Final Fours and one national championship

game during his collegiate career.

The coaching staff will invite top coaches to be guest speakers, and

National Lacrosse League players to give presentations.

NCAA RULES AND REGULATIONS

Senior Prospect Prohibition—In ac cordance with NCAA Rules and

Regulations, “senior prospective student-athletes” shall not be permit ted

to be employed in an institution’s summer sport camp. The definition of a

“senior prospective student-athlete” is one who is eligible for admission

to a member institution or who has started classes for the senior year in

high school.

No Free or Reduced Privi leges—Institutional staff members or representatives

of its athletics inter ests shall not employ or give free or reducedadmission

privileges to a high school, preparatory school, or two-year

college athletics award winner.

Prohibited Compensation—A mem ber institution may not compensate or

reimburse a high school, prepara tory school, or two-year college coach

based on the number of camp ers the coach sends to the camp.

Mark Duncan, Head Coach at The Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, PA, will direct this GameBreaker Camp. He has been at The Shipley School as their Head Coach for seven years and recently was named Coach of the Year in the Northeast League.  The Shipley School won its first ever Friends Schools League Championship in 2006 and in 2005 won their first Northeast League Championship with Mark at the helm advancing to the EPSLA state playoffs each year.   He was named Coach of the Year in both the Main Line Times and Main Line Life newspapers in 2005 and in the Northeast League.  Mark was also the Head Coach of Team Montgomery County at the Keystone Games in 2005.   Before his tenure at The Shipley School, Mark was the Head Offensive Assistant at Division III powerhouse Whittier College. While the offensive coordinator, Whittier finished 19-1 and was ranked in the Top 20 all season. 

Mark also enjoyed a great playing career. He attended famed Ward Melville High School in Long Island. In 1992, his team went undefeated and was crowned New York State Champions. Mark went on to play at Division I Lehigh University, where he led the nation in goals (54) in 1997. He was crowned the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in 1998 and was also 1st team All-Patriot league attackman in 1997 and 1998. A North-South Team alternate in 1998, Mark holds the Division I and Patriot League record for scoring eight goals in one game in 1997 and finished his career at Lehigh as the all-time leading goal scorer with 129 goals. Mark is a high school and college US Lacrosse official in the Philadelphia area, where he also runs year round lacrosse clinics. He has directed camps across the country for the past four summers for LaxCamps.com.

Special Guest Counselor

John Christmas- from the NLL’s Philly Wings and MLL’s Boston Cannons, MLL All-Star 2006.  John was a 2X All-American and won a National Championship during his 4 years at the University of Virginia.  A native of Ardmore, PA, John was a 3X All-American at Lower Merion HS, where he guided his squad to a PA State Championship.  He is still the All Time PA State point leader with 322 points.
